Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran is creating a special committee to study the impact of Hurricane Irma.
The committee will come up with recommendations to help expedite the recovery process as well as changes to law that could improve Florida’s response to future storms.
Corcoran says some of the issues will deal with power companies, underground utilities and a more expansive tree
But Florida State House Democrats want to invite politics onto the committee.
Florida House Democratic leader, Rep. Janet Cruz, says if Republicans want their own hurricane study committee, then the focus should be on climate change on Florida’s readiness for future storms, particularly sea-level rise and increasing ocean temperatures.
Democrats are also suggesting that the committee would be used to “roll back regulations” and building codes to deal with hurricanes.
