Empower Jacksonville just may be onto something. Described as a Christian conservative organization, they want to see a referendum on the August 2018 ballot that would make changed to the city charter.
One of those changed would allow citizens groups to vote to repeal any law passed by City Council.
Empower Jacksonville says it’s goal is to place an initiative on the ballot to allow Jacksonville’s citizens to repeal unfair and unjust laws because using the democratic process to rectify unjust laws is a basic civil right.
We are also working to protect the freedom of every citizen to peacefully live and work according to their beliefs without fear of unjust government punishment.
One of their targets would be the Human Rights Ordinance (HRO) that was passed in February of this year. Empower Jacksonville wants to see this issue on a ballot. And with all the conversation locally, about taking down Confederate monuments, I bet Empower Jacksonville gets enough signatures to change the city charter.
